Deakin's Bachelor of Creative Writing provides a practice-based and theoretically strong preparation for professional writers working in specialised literary/publishing fields and industry, and for entrepreneurial contexts. Students engage in practice ranging from narrative-driven works to experimental innovations, editing, creative nonfiction and script writing, as well as new takes on traditional genres of poetry, and short and extended fiction writing. Collaboration, robust practice, professionalism and creative sustainability are emphasised at all levels, ensuring you hone skills necessary to work with interdisciplinary teams in writing, film, drama and new technologies. At Deakin, we encourage you to identify and pursue opportunities for writing/ editing in new media, including for our own international writing journal, Verandah.
Deakin College is a direct pathway to Deakin University, and provides an excellent avenue for students who do not yet meet the admission requirements for Deakin University programs.
Deakin College and Deakin University work closely to support students and develop high-quality programs. Deakin College offers diplomas in the areas of Business; Commerce; Construction Management; Design; Engineering; Film, Television and Animation; Health Sciences; Information Technology; and Science, as well as a Foundation Studies Program (equal to Australian Year 12).
Diplomas at Deakin College are equivalent to the first year of a Deakin University undergraduate degree, and may provide entry into the second year of a relevant Deakin University bachelor degree.
