Course Information

Interested in television and radio journalism? This is the course for you. Our students have gone straight off to work with the BBC, in commercial radio, at Tristar, Incisive TV and Endemol or headed off to do Masters degrees in London and New York.

You’ll be taught by staff with decades worth of experience in industry and you’ll be producing your own news from the start. You’ll not only write for our own news website but you will be broadcasting the news on our community radio station RadioLaB and for our TV news programme, UoB Today.

You’ll need a good nose for stories, a love of writing and editing and an ability to keep cool under pressure. You will also develop your powers of critical analysis, studying the ethics and the theories that underpin the industry, whilst reading the latest research.

Your final assessment will be a piece of broadcast or online journalism which will show off all your skills and which could be your stepping stone to that dream first job.

  • Learn from former and practicing journalists who combine industry experience with academic research
  • Take part in regular newsdays, with guest editors from industry to put you through your paces
  • Master the law and media regulation which all professional journalists need to be employable
  • Get voice training from experts to improve your on-air presentation
  • Develop your knowledge of both the theory and practice of journalism so you can enter the industry with a rounded understanding.
  • Go on trips and hear from a great range of guest speakers
  • Benefit from a degree accredited by the Broadcast Journalism Training Council which represents a partnership of the BBC, Sky, ITV News, Reuters and other leading news organisations who have joined forces with universities like Bedfordshire to accredit the courses for the next generation of broadcast journalists.
