At the end of the course students would have:
Studied and practised all parts of the exam (use of English, reading, writing, listening, and speaking)
been able to demonstrate the ability to read at a pace quick enough to cope with an academic course
been able to read with understanding a variety of sources, registers, topics, and lexical fields
been able to demonstrate the ability to take notes in context of meetings and lectures
been able to write most types of formal and informal letters
been able to demonstrate the ability to write a piece of work which shows an ability to communicate
been able to demonstrate the knowledge of a range of collocations, understanding of the shades of meaning differentiating sets of similar words and complementation
been aware of grammar accuracy; verb forms, auxiliary verbs, conjunctions, determiners, etc
been able to understand lengthy interviews and discussions
been able to demonstrate an ability to pick up nuances of meaning/opinion
been able to contribute effectively to meetings and seminars within own area of work
been able to keep up a casual conversation with a good degree of fluency, copying with abstract
