If English is not your first language or was not the medium of instruction in your secondary or tertiary studies, you are required to demonstrate your proficiency in the English language by achieving a prescribed level in an approved English examination or test before you can receive a full offer of a place.

  • IELTS (Academic version): 6.0 overall score, minimum 5.5 in each subtest
  • TOEFL internet-based score: Total score 70 Writing 20; Speaking 16; Listening and Reading 11
  • Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE): 50 overall; No communication skills less than 42

Be prepared for a career in the media world of tomorrow. Choose from fascinating majors, including Advertising, Journalism, Public Relations and Media Arts Production. Develop an understanding of audiences from cross-cultural and international perspectives. Solve problems that need active participation in the community. Learn about ethical conduct, intellectual integrity, diversity and social justice principles.

The Bachelor of Communication encompasses a range of studies in the fields of communication, media and design including specialised studies in the major fields of Advertising, Journalism, Public Relations and Media Arts Production. Teaching includes both theory and practice with reference to real world contexts highlighting future career opportunities in a convergent digital media world. Through classwork, independent study and engagement with the multicultural nature of our communities, students develop an understanding of the local and international relevance of their chosen studies, with opportunities to develop and produce a range of media outcomes as applied research and professional projects throughout their studies. Through self-directed, team-based and problem-based learning strategies requiring active participation in the community and professional contexts, graduates learn to reflect and value ethical and intellectual conduct as well as respect for diversity and social justice principles.

The first year of this course is delivered by Western Sydney University The College, as an agent of Western Sydney University, via extended face-to-face hours in smaller learning environments. A Diploma in Communication exit point is also available at the end of the first year of the course.

When you successfully complete the 12-month diploma from The College, you gain guaranteed entry into the second year of the Bachelor of Communication at Western Sydney University. 

To apply, all you need is an ATAR of 55+ and the determination to work hard.
