Admission Requirements

Entry requirements:

A successful applicant for admission to the Graduate Diploma in Emergency Nursing will hold

  • (a) a pre-registration nursing degree from the University of Sydney or equivalent qualification; or 
  • (b) an embedded graduate certificate in this discipline from the University of Sydney or equivalent qualification. 

In exceptional circumstances the dean may admit applicants without these qualifications who, in the opinion of the School, have qualifications and evidence of experience and achievement sufficient to successfully undertake the award.

International applicants are required to have a minimum of one year's experience in emergency nursing and have a choice of providing a statement of support from their supervisor if they wish to undertake the required clinical assessments in their home country, or else the clinical assessments can be undertaken at the Sydney Nursing School under simulated conditions.

English requirements:

  • The IELTS (academic module) with a minimum overall score of 7 and a minimum score of 7 in each of the four components (listening, reading, writing and speaking).
  • The TOEFL iBT with a minimum total score of 96 and the following minimum score in each section of the test:
    • 24 for Listening
    • 24 for Reading
    • 27 for Writing
    • 23 for Speaking
  • The PTE Academic with a minimum overall score of 68 and a minimum score of 68 in each of the four communicative skills (listening, reading, writing and speaking).

Course Information

Designed for registered nurses, the Graduate Diploma in Emergency Nursing aims to assist nurses currently working in the emergency environment. Develop the specialist knowledge and skills to work closely with patients and their families who are confronted with trauma, accidents or acute and unexpected illnesses as you become a clinical leader.
