Admission Requirements

Entry requirements:

A successful applicant for admission to the Graduate Diploma in Mental Health Nursing will hold

  • a pre-registration nursing degree from the University of Sydney or equivalent qualification; or 
  • an embedded graduate certificate in this discipline from the University of Sydney or equivalent qualification.

In exceptional circumstances the dean may admit applicants without these qualifications who, in the opinion of the School, have qualifications and evidence of experience and achievement sufficient to successfully undertake the award.

International applicants are required to have a minimum of one year's experience in mental health nursing.

English requirements:

  • IELTS Academic: A minimum result of 7.0 overall and a minimum result of 7.0 in each band
  • TOEFL iBT: A minimum result of 96 overall including a minimum result of 23 in Reading, Listening and Speaking and 25 in Writing
  • TOEFL PBT score: A minimum result of 592 overall including a minimum result of 5.0 in Writing
  • PTE Academic: A minimum result of 68 overall and a minimum result of 68 in each band

The Graduate Diploma in Mental Health Nursing is designed for registered nurses working in mental health settings. This course focuses on current clinical issues in mental health, as well as therapeutic skills and role development.
