Selection of applicants will be made on the basis of their Admission application and performance in:
the Audition (performance)
the Interview (oral assessment)
the Application (written assessment)
All Candidates must complete all of the below requirements to be eligible to be considered for entry to the Bachelor of Music/Bachelor of Arts.
Step 1 Lodge an Admission application*
Domestic Applicants - apply through the Universities Admission Centre (UAC), or
International Applicants - apply through UON International Admissions, or
Current students wishing to transfer to the Bachelor of Music/Bachelor of Arts from another degree can submit an application for degree transfer:
Current Domestic Student - Apply for domestic student degree transfer
Current International Student - Apply for international student degree transfer
Students currently completing a University of Newcastle Enabling program (Yapug, Open Foundation or Newstep) can Apply for direct admission
Step 2 Complete and submit your online Audition Application;
Step 3 Auditions - Applicants can either:
(1) Audition face-to-face; or
(2) Audition online (OPEN year-round)
Upload your audition video
Have an online interview.
*UAC/International Admissions/Degree Transfer/Direct Admission Application is based on:
Completed Year 12 studies - NSW HSC or equivalent qualification - irrespective of age of qualification. There is no minimum Selection Rank requirement; or
Completed or partly completed higher education studies (0.25 FTE completed or greater); or
TAFE/VET qualifications, with a minimum of a completed Certificate II (AQF level 2); or
Completed recognised enabling program; or
Overseas qualifications equivalent to Australian studies (International); or
Post-secondary professional qualifications.

This combined degree program provides scope for study in both Music and the Arts. Students complete two degree awards over four years of full time study (or part time equivalent).
The flexibility of this combined degree allows you:
to develop skills in Music theory, technology, industry and collaboration as well as choosing to develop your creative passion and technical skills in areas of focus such as; Performance or Songwriting and Production, and
to gather skills that will prepare you for the work place and a wide variety of careers, with the flexibility to choose from a broad range of Arts majors and minors, to match your specific interests, including pursuing themes and disciplines, gaining work experience, engaging with industry, and completing research projects.
Students will complete a major in Music and a major in Arts, with the option to complete an Arts minor or complement their degree with elective choices.
