Ontario High School Curriculum
Laurier’s language of instruction is English. If your first language is not English, you must provide evidence of your English proficiency to our Recruitment and Admissions office.
You can:
Submit a minimum score on an accepted test of English proficiency (listed below); or
Complete the Laurier English and Academic Foundation (LEAF) program.
If you have studied in an English-language school system on a full-time basis for a minimum of three years, you may request an exemption.
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), Internet-based testing (TOEFL iBT): an overall score of 83 or higher with a minimum score of 20 in each component.
Paper-based testing: 560 overall.
International English Language Testing System (IELTS), An academic score of 6.5 or higher with a minimum of 6.0 in each band.
Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL), 70 overall; 60 in each band.
Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE), 59 overall or higher.
Cambridge Assessment English (CAE), Overall score of 176.
Duolingo English Test, Minimum score of 115.
Laurier’s Bachelor of Arts in Languages is the first of its kind in Canada. You’ll have the opportunity to study two languages in depth: French and Spanish. Then you'll add to your thorough knowledge of French and Spanish by acquiring basic, working knowledge of a third language of your choice (Arabic, German or Italian). You're also required to take courses in linguistics or cultural perspectives (European and Mediterranean) to round out your education.
If you have prior language experience and are interested in taking French and Spanish upper-level courses, be sure to consult with the Languages and Literatures department.
