Course Information

The study of History provides students with an understanding of the world and the diverse forces shaping both the past and present.  Our faculty seeks to develop students’ appreciation of societies that differ from theirs, to discover how to place contemporary issues and problems within a broad historical context,  and to help students develop a variety of practical research and communication skills that allow them to understand and analyze the past. Ultimately, our faculty provides students a framework for understanding the past and the knowledge and skills necessary for charting the future.

The History faculty believes in an active approach to the study of the discipline.  All members of the faculty teach entry-level courses as well as a variety of upper division offerings.  They regularly participate in conferences, publish research, and actively encourage students to do the same.  Nevertheless, teaching and mentoring is the primary concern of the History faculty.
