The Bachelor of Laws program satisfies the academic degree requirements for admission to practice as an Australian lawyer. Students will engage in collaborative face-to-face problem and case-based learning, will be supported by online learning materials, and will participate in authentic assessment to develop knowledge and skills.
The Bachelor of Laws provides students with a broad progressive legal education with a strong practical orientation to the law. Students develop skills in problem-solving, critical thinking, research, communication, collaboration, self-management, and ethical and professional awareness and judgement. Students will also develop skills in legal advocacy, negotiation, and legal technology and extend their professional and learning experiences through work integrated learning, clinical placement and international exchange engagements.
Construction Management Studies at Western mixes work experience with study resulting in theoretical, practical and hands-on knowledge that is greatly valued in the construction industry. Your studies will include practical experiments in building technology such as acoustics, heat flow through a building, corrosion of materials, concerete testing and more.
The skills you develop will then be used during your 1,200 hours of approved practical experience during the duration of the program.
Law at Western gives you a strong background in fundamental legal principles, as well as professional legal skills. This includes the ability to analyse legal material and understand fundamental legal principles, an understanding of the relationship between law and society, general analytical skills for analysing and solving non-legal problems, and specialised study into the Australian legal system. You will develop skills in advocacy, negotiation, legal drafting and legal research.
Construction Management subjects are offered at the Penrith campus and Law subjects are offered at Campbelltown and Parramatta campuses. Travel between campuses is required to complete your core subjects. Night and weekend classes are also available for selected law subjects.
