Admission Requirements

Entry requirements

  • Applicants under 20 years of age
  • Achievement of NCEA Level 3( 60 credits at Level 3 or higher and 20 credits at Level 2 or higher)
  • A minimum of 14 credits at Level 3 or higher in each of three subjects from the list of approved subjects
  • A minimum of 10 credits at Level 2 or higher in English or Te Reo Maori made up of:

+ 5 credits in reading

+5 credits in writing

And

  • A minimum of 10 credits at Level 1 or above in Mumeracy, made up of: achievement standards – specified achievement standards available through a range of subjects,  or unit standards – package of three numeracy unit standards.

Or

  • Any qualification (New Zealand or overseas) recognized by NZQA as being equivalent to achievement of NCEA Level 3.
  • A qualification considered to be equivalent to the above.

English level

All applicants must have a standard of English sufficient to be able to study at the level at which they enter the program. Those students whose first language is not English will have:

  • IELTS overall Academic score of at least 6.0 (with at least 5.5 in each band) issued within the last two years; or
  • A qualification considered to be equivalent to the above

Course Information

This programme focuses on the theoretical and practical aspects of computers and their application in business and industry and provides entry to postgraduate study. The NMIT Bachelor of Information Technology is accredited by IT Professionals New Zealand. This programme can be completed in three years of full time study, or you can study part-time. In your first year you will take eight compulsory courses at Level 5. In years two and three you take specific courses to complete one of the three majors (Information Systems, Systems Development or ICT Infrastructure) and some elective courses to make up your total of 120 credits.
