Admission Requirements

Entry requirements

  • If you are not a first-language speaker of English, we require evidence of your English language proficiency. Evidence, such as test results, must not be more than two years old.

  • If you are not certain of the evidence required, please contact us.

  • Evidence of your English language proficiency can be:

    • Achievement of NCEA level 3 and has met New Zealand university entrance requirements; or

    • Completion of a Bachelor Degree, Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma, Bachelor Honours Degree, Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma, Master's Degree or Doctoral Degree with English as the language of instruction, from tertiary education providers from New Zealand, Australia, Canada, the Republic of Ireland, South Africa, the United Kingdom or the United States; or

    • Obtaining the Cambridge Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CELTA) or the Trinity College London Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (Cert TESOL); or

English requirements

  • A satisfactory result in an approved English language test, such as:

  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS – Academic): 6.0 overall with no sub-score less than 5.5

  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): Score of 60 (with a writing score of 20)

  • Cambridge English Test: FCE with a pass at Grade B

  • Pearson Test of English (Academic) – PTE: score of 50

  • New Zealand Certificate in English Language (NZCEL): Level 4 with the Academic endorsement

Other requirements 

  • Some papers have prerequisites (requirements which must be met before enrolling in a paper). A student may be required to study papers in addition to those specified to meet the prerequisites.
  • Students enrolling in the Accounting strand need to have completed a three year Bachelor degree that includes introductory courses in Accounting.

Course Information

The Graduate Diploma in Applied Business Studies is a Level 7, one year, full-time qualification (part-time options available) which allows students to select their area of specialisation. Students will need to demonstrate prior knowledge or completion of study to meet the prerequisites of the papers they wish to study.

Programme Outline

The Graduate Diploma in Applied Business Studies programme comprises six papers (120 credits). Four papers must be at level 7 or above, drawn from papers listed in the schedules for the Bachelor of Applied Business Studies.
