Admission Requirements

Entry requirements

  • Bachelor degree at least equivalent to New Zealand pass standard;
  • Candidates without a Bachelor degree but with an appropriate mix of a lesser qualification and work experience may be approved for special admission by the Academic Board.

English requirements

  • IELTS 6.0 with no individual band lower than 5.5
  • TOEFL iBT 60 (with a writing score of 18) 
  • Pearson 50
  • TEP 52 or equivalent with no band less than 12;
     

Course Information

The Graduate Diploma in Tourism Management (GDTM) is a one-year programme designed for students who have a bachelor’s degree in a discipline other than Tourism Management and who wish to broaden their career options.

For some students, it is a prelude to postgraduate study in Tourism Management, for others it is a bridge into an employment situation which meaningfully utilises their dual skill set.

The programme comprises seven courses, or six courses if the internship option is chosen:

  • 3.119 Principles of Tourism

  • 5.204 Hospitality and Tourism Strategic Management

  • 3.222 Tourism and Hospitality Management

  • 3.317 Tourism Policy Planning and Development

And three Stage III elective courses selected from Tourism Management or Hospitality Management programmes.

(Please note that not all elective courses are offered every semester.)

Internship Option

  • This option includes the four courses listed above, 3.398 Tourism Internship, and one Stage III elective course selected from Tourism Management or Hospitality Management programmes.

  • The internship comprises 20 hours per week over 12 weeks (240 hours minimum).
