Admission Requirements

Entry requirements​​

  • NCEA Level 2 which must include:
    • 8 Literacy credits at Level 2 or above and
    • 14 Numeracy credits at Level 1 or above

Note: If you have undertaken examinations other than NCEA (e.g. International Baccalaureate, Cambridge Examination), Ara will assess your qualification for academic entry equivalency.

English requirements

  • IELTS: Academic score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5.0
  • TOEFL Paper-based Test (pBT): Score of 550 (with an essay score of 5 TWE)
  • TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT): Score of 46 (with a writing score of 14)
  • Pearson Test of English: PTE (Academic) score of 42 with no band score lower than 36
  • Cambridge English Qualifications: B2 First or B2 First for schools with a score of 162. No less than 154 in each skill;
  • OET: Minimum of Grade C or 200 in all sub-tests
  • NZCEL: a) Level 4 (General) or (Workplace) b) Level 4 (General) or (Employment)
  • LanguageCert: B2 Communicator IESOL (LRWS) with HIGH PASS and no less than Pass in each skill
  • Trinity ISE: ISE II with no less than merit in any band

This programme is designed to enable you to perform the vital role that accounting plays across all facets of business today.

You'll investigate business software options, study up-to-date accounting principles and practices, and learn about risk management, ethics, legislation, economic dynamics, supply and demand, sustainable management and strategies for operational efficiency. HR, sales and marketing, innovation and communication are also covered.

You'll also gain a thorough grounding in financial and management accounting with options to specialise in taxation, business financing, or other aspects of the commerical world that interest you most.

Career Opportunity

This qualification will equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to work in a variety of business entities in accounting roles such as: finance administrator, inventory controller, accounts receivable/payable officer. You may also be able to contribute to community groups in volunteer accounting functions.

Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ) recognise those students who complete the Level 5 Diploma in Business with the Accounting Strand as having the academic requirements to become a provisional member, and enter the Accounting Technician programme. To complete this process you need to apply via the CAANZ website to gain provisional membership on completion of the qualification.
