Admission Requirements

Entry Requirement

All graduate applicants need to submit the following:

  • Online application form

  • Transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate schools attended

  • Personal statement, detailing your interest in the program and goals

    • Read our blog post on how to write a strong statement of purpose

  • Non-refundable application fee of $75 to $100 (if required)

  • One to three letters of recommendation

  • Professional resumé and/or curriculum vitae

  • Official GRE, LSAT, or GMAT scores (If required by your program)

English Requirement

If you are required to submit English Language Testing, you must submit results from one of the five tests listed below. Your results must be both valid (i.e. no more than 2 years old by the application deadline) and official (i.e. sent directly to Northeastern from the testing agency). The ranges provided below represent the middle 50% score ranges for students who were admitted and enrolled as first-year students in Fall 2020 and Spring 2021. Please note: score provided below are not cut-off scores, but for estimating purposes, and in no way represent a promise or guarantee of admission.

Course Information

Africana studies is an interdisciplinary field of study devoted to the critical and systematic examination of the cultural, political, social, economic, and historical experiences of Africans, African-Americans throughout the hemisphere, and peoples of African descent around the world. Students are able to choose focused concentrations in African American or Africa Studies.
