Course Information

Cloud computing is a fast-growing field, and expert practitioners are in high demand. Oglethorpe is now participating in the Amazon Web Services Academy, giving computer-savvy OU students the opportunity to polish their cloud computing credentials and gain AWS certification. With this valuable skillset — and the official certification to prove it — you’ll be in great shape to land a high-paying job from the start.

Amazon Web Services is the world’s biggest and most widely used cloud platform. In addition to being the leading cloud platform worldwide, AWS offers more than 165 feature-packed services (more than any other cloud provider). AWS is home to millions of customers across every industry, with clients like Expedia, Intuit, General Electric, AirBnB, Lyft, Coursera and the FDA. AWS is an industry leader and innovator in areas such as machine learning and artificial intelligence, Internet of Things and server-less computing.

Because the knowledge and skills associated with this innovative platform are changing so rapidly, the AWS Academy curriculum is always changing, too. The courses are designed by AWS subject matter experts and continually updated to represent current knowledge and best practices in the field.

Oglethorpe’s two available AWS courses — Cloud Foundations and Cloud Computing Architecture — are taught by AWS-trained and accredited instructors. Both lead to industry-recognized AWS certification.

  • Cloud Foundations is a 20-hour course that starts with the basics. You’ll explore foundational topics underlying cloud computing, touching on both the business and the technical aspects. This course will prepare you for the AWS Practitioner’s Exam.

  • Cloud Architecture is a 60-hour course that covers everything taught in Cloud Foundations, along with more advanced topics in software engineering and information management. After completing this course, you’ll be prepared to take both the AWS Practitioner’s Exam and the AWS Solution’s Architect Exam. This course also counts toward a computer science minor.

Oglethorpe is one of just two AWS Academy member institutions in Georgia, joined only by Georgia Tech. AWS Academy gives Oglethorpe students a unique advantage as they launch their careers.
