Course Information

Delivered in partnership with the Celtic Manor Resort Hotel (CMR) and International Convention Centre Wales (ICCW), the course aims to combine the base of Events Management theory with the opportunity to develop practical industry experience in an international market setting. With a strong emphasis on the principles of sustainable project management throughout, the course provides students with an advanced business education whilst contextualising this learning in the field of events management. 

The event industry is one of the fastest growing industries in the world, playing a fundamental part in economic development locally, nationally and internationally. It is now worth £42.3 billion in the UK alone and offers diverse and exciting career opportunities around the world. This innovative International Events Management course will be delivered in partnership with the CMR and ICCW, offering a unique opportunity for students to experience the events industry from a range of perspectives throughout their studies. This is a ‘first of its kind’ programme in the UK and has inherent local, national and international appeal.

The course brings together our established expertise in events studies, and business and management, to provide a critical understanding of the various concepts and issues, research techniques and examples of distinctive practice across this diverse field.

Year 1

You will study 6 core modules that combine taught and work-based learning elements in your first year. Each module is 20 credits.

  • Becoming a Professional: Critical Enquiry

  • International Events Management

  • Work-based Learning in Event Operations 1

  • Marketing and Consumer Behaviour

  • Becoming a Professional: Enterprise Project

  • Work-based Learning in Event Operations 2

Year 2

Year Two builds on the foundations of Year One and focuses on the learning of theory and its practical application to allow students to start to build more in-depth knowledge of management within the events industry. In this year, students will study in USW and work on high profile events at our industry partners, which will increase students’ motivation and commitment to their planned careers.

You will study six 20 credit core modules in the second year that combine taught and work-based learning elements:

  • Accounting for Event Professionals

  • Events Project and Risk Management

  • Live Event Production 1

  • Events Professional Practice and Employment Experience

  • Digital Marketing in Events

  • Live Event Production 2

Year 3

Year Three provides the culmination of studies and focuses on the critical thinking skills to explore the way that strategy and growth is key for the effective management of international events. Alongside specialist modules, students will have the opportunity to plan, manage and run their own live event at the CMR/ICCW and plan and undertake their own research and become an expert on their work. Students will work with organisations on a particular business challenge and draw on the knowledge that has been developed on the course to solve those challenges in an innovative and creative fashion.

You will study four 20-credit core modules that combine taught and work-based learning elements in the third year, plus a Dissertation or Consultancy Report (40 credits).
