Admission Requirements

Entry Requirements

Entry for applicants with recent secondary education (previous three years) will be based on a minimum Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) of 80 or equivalent in a Senior Secondary Certificate of Education, with pre-requisite units 3 and 4; a study score of at least 25 in English EAL (English as an additional language) or 20 in English other than EAL.

Entry for applicants with previous Tertiary, VET, life or work experience will be based on achieving an equivalent standard of achievement of an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) of 80 in:

  • a Certificate IV in a related discipline OR

  • a Diploma in any discipline or 50% completion of a Diploma in a related discipline OR

  • successful completion of relevant study at an accredited higher education institution equivalent to at least two Deakin University units OR

  • other evidence of academic capability judged to be equivalent including relevant work or life experience

English Requirement

IELTS overall score of 6 (with no band score less than 6) or equivalent

Course Information

Our Bachelor of Arts – Advanced (Honours) provides similar training and opportunities to our popular arts degree, with the added benefit of an honours year that opens up exciting career and study opportunities. The course gives you the platform to question and examine an area of interest, through a supervised research project with one of our professional academics.

As a researcher, you’ll learn to think critically about how we find information, identify robust source material, and interpret and write about new ideas. 

When you graduate, high-performing students will be eligible to apply for higher degrees by research and extend your new awareness through Deakin’s exceptional masters and doctorate programs (admissions requirements apply).
