The Bachelor of Arts in Art is the broadest of the undergraduate offerings within the department of fine arts. The degree provides a base of fundamental to intermediate skills and allows for exploration of a wide range of media. It also offers a wide range of electives. Many students choose to combine the BA with another major or minor, such as the Missouri K-12 teaching certificate.
With a faculty of working artists, an ongoing visiting artist program and an active gallery, you will have opportunities to interact with professionals in the art world outside of the classroom, an important factor for artists at any level. Classes are small, allowing for much interaction between students and the instructor, and students and their peers, giving you the attention and feedback you need to hone and present your work.
Beyond fundamental courses, classes are taught in the Academy style, with students from all levels in the same class. This offers the opportunity to learn from peers as well as more advanced students. A departmental emphasis on the figurative ensures skills and techniques are stressed, providing the basis for creative exploration, as well as instilling the idea of continual learning.
