Course Information

The course of study in the department is designed to develop excellence in academics and clinical practice. The department values a strong liberal arts foundation to develop thinking skills and communication abilities. The collaborative relationship among students and faculty is personal, meaningful and contributes to a reputation for producing caring and expert professionals.

  • Students demonstrate an understanding of the typical processes of communication across the age span.

  • Students articulate and apply theoretical concepts of communication processes as they relate to typical and atypical communication skills.

  • Students describe behaviors one might encounter when managing persons with communication impairment in a variety of clinical settings.

  • Students demonstrate the basic procedures in the assessment of a communication disorder.

  • Students demonstrate or articulate the basic principles of intervention for a communication disorder.

  • Students show evidence of how to document the results of a communication evaluation or treatment session.

  • Students articulate how to evaluate and integrate published literature to enhance the care of persons with a communication or swallowing disorder.
