A creative arts degree can lead you in a range of exciting directions, from a career as an artist to the management of art projects and exhibitions. Experts also predict that creative skills will be highly sought after by employers in the future.*
La Trobe's Bachelor of Creative Arts combines in-depth theory and practice for a well-rounded arts education. Build a unique creative skillset by exploring multiple artistic mediums, including painting, drawing, ceramics, photography and printmaking.
Examine a range of major artists and arts movements, from impressionism and surrealism through to post-modernism. Uncover how these have contributed to society and the contemporary arts world. From there, you'll critically analyse the relationship between art and visual culture, such as fashion, film, television, design and new media.
Develop your artistic practice by working in our world-class facilities, including painting and drawing studios, photography dark rooms, ceramics and printmaking workshops, and digital editing suites. Each year is based around core practical subjects that build your experience in studio environments and help you explore the conceptual frameworks of contemporary art.
Develop both technical and conceptual approaches to your artmaking through specialist workshops that let you explore a range of approaches and media. Begin with small projects in your first year before advancing to exhibitions of your work in the final graduate show.
Become part of a vibrant and supportive creative community. In addition to our facilities, workshops and professional development opportunities, you'll have your own personal studio space in our purpose-built Visual Arts building.
Benefit from our strong connection to the arts community. The La Trobe Arts Institute manages art collections of cultural importance and delivers curated exhibitions in the heart of Bendigo's CBD arts precinct. You'll also be able to build your professional network through the institute's partnerships with cultural institutions including Bendigo Art Gallery, the National Gallery of Victoria, Murray Art Museum Albury (MAMA), Shepparton Art Museum (SAM) and the Islamic Museum of Australia.
