Admission Requirements

Entry requirements

  • The Spring international application deadline is Dec. 12
  • The Fall international application deadline is Aug. 2
    • A high school diploma.
    • Overall minimum GPA of 3.0
    • Completion of high school program that focuses on college prep courses including English, biology, and chemistry.  It is strongly recommended that incoming freshman take math through pre-calculus or calculus and complete high school physics.
    • Minimum combined SAT scores of 1,080 (mathematics and verbal).
    • Students must be able to meet the technical standards of the college and the program so that they can actively participate in all phases of class, practicum and laboratory work, with or without reasonable accommodations.

English requirements

  • A minimum TOEFL score of 550 on the paper version of the test, 213 on the computer-based version or a 79-80 on the internet-based version. IELTS minimum score: 6.5.
  • Freshman applicants may waive the TOEFL, IELTS exam if their secondary institution provides written verification that the means of instruction is in English, they are enrolled in an IB curriculum, attend an American School or enrolled in a curriculum that leads to Cambridge International Examinations: IGCSE/O-Level and GCE/A level exam.

The UMass Lowell Nutritional Science BS Program was recently ranked as one of the top 25 best nutritional sciences programs in the country.

With a B.S. in Nutritional Science, you’ll be prepared for a career in fields such as dietetics, nutrition and wellness, food science and nutrition research.

Earn a Nutritional Science BS degree in one of three Options:

  • Dietetics Option – This accredited degree option prepares students for a career as a Nutrition and Dietetics Technician, Registered. NDTRs are an integral part of healthcare and food service management teams.
  • Nutrition and Wellness Option - This degree option combines nutrition, public health and business coursework. Students are prepared for positions related to disease prevention and health promotion in the community.
  • General Option – This degree option provides students with a strong science background. Students are prepared for a variety of research positions or may choose to apply to coordinated dietetics programs, doctoral programs or medical school.

The Nutritional Science degree meets UMass Lowell graduation standards of completing 120 credits, including:

  • University General Education Course Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Nutritional Sciences Core Courses.
