Course Information

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

Digital (Image) Design is a laptop-based program that explores the creative process at the intersection of digital printing, visual arts, and design. Images and objects are everywhere—providing information, entertainment and sensation in our fast-paced contemporary world. In this program, you'll be introduced to a broad range of digital tools and techniques that will allow you to create images and objects for output to both screen and print media, while utilizing both software and traditional art + design mediums.

You'll investigate a variety of subject matter using design elements and principles and gain an understanding of contemporary approaches to art and design processes in order to begin to develop your own creative content. Assessment of the form and content of visual images and objects will assist in the development of your critical thinking skills and lead to increased appreciation of contemporary issues in both art and design. It will enable you to assess and reflect on both your own work and that of others working in the field.

Studio space is designed for students to work on their laptops. Students will have access to the Centre For Making (3D printers, laser cutter/etcher, CNC machine, embroidery machine, vinyl cutter, RISO printer and plotter printer) and a traditional art studio space.

Equivalent to two semesters of full-time study at other Ontario colleges, our intensive 15-week certificate program provides over 600 hours of hands-on studio time. Each week you will work alongside a different faculty member who brings their unique perspective and expertise within the discipline to the studio. Limited enrolment ensures you have access to equipment and time to interact with faculty. You will also benefit from the guidance of experienced studio technicians and extended hours in the studio after class.
