Admission Requirements

Entry requirements:

  • Grade 10 graduation or mature student status
  • Passing Stenberg College entrance examination
  • Passing Stenberg College entrance informational interview
  • Passing English Language Competency Requirements*
  • English 10 or equivalent (for native speakers of English)**
  • Standardized English language proficiency test score (for non-native speakers of English)
  • Acceptable Criminal Record Review with Vulnerable Sector Check by the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General

*Entrance requirements can be met with evidence of alternate assessments such as Challenge Exams, or acceptable standardized English equivalency tests as per the Stenberg College Language Proficiency chart. Evidence of Post-Secondary studies at an equivalent level where English was the first language is acceptable.

** English Language Competency Requirements met as per the BC Care Aide Registry for Non-Native English Speakers

English level:

Applicants whose native language is not English and wish to study at Stenberg College in one of the diploma programs MUST demonstrate their proficiency in English by way of Academic IELTS or PTE with minimum scores in IELTS of 6.0 overall and a PTE score of 51

Other requirements:

Prior to Health Care Assistant program admission, our Program Advisors will outline practice education requirements for the program. Upon enrollment, you will be informed of the next steps and timelines. Non-compliance could result in program dismissal.

  • Acceptable Criminal Record Review with Vulnerable Sector Check by the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General
  • TB Screening Results
  • Letter of good health completed by a physician
  • Proof of Immunity Status as required by industry
  • Flu vaccination as required by industry
  • Provincial Violence Prevention E-Learning Modules

Course Information

About the Program

We have offered our 30-week Health Care Assistant Certificate program for over 20 years and it maintains an excellent reputation for preparing our graduates for employment after program completion. Instructors in this program are currently working in the industry ensuring you acquire relevant and in-demand skills. With nearly 300 hours of hands-on experience, you will be extremely well prepared and connected for employment after program completion.
While the majority of our Health Care Assistant Certificate graduates provide care for seniors, our program prepares you to care for adults with a wide variety of chronic health conditions.

As a Health Care Assistant, you will help elderly individuals maintain a level of independence while easing their pain and improving their quality of life. After graduating from our 30-week Health Care Assistant Certificate program, you will be able to find employment in health authorities, such as:

You may also choose to be self-employed, working independently as a personal care attendant.
