About

General Decription

The Honourable Eric Werge Hamber was born April 21, 1879 in Winnipeg and died January 10, 1960 in Vancouver. He graduated at nineteen with honours from the University of Manitoba and achieved unique distinction in Canadian sports, being the captain of all three of the famous Toronto Argonauts hockey, football, and rowing teams for five consecutive years.

In 1913 he started a distinguished business career. In addition to operating a lumber company, he was in involved as a director of many corporations and volunteer organizations. In 1936 he was named Lieutenant-Governor of B.C.

We are proud and honored that our school, opened in 1962, is named after this exemplary Canadian. His outstanding leadership and achievement in scholarship, sports and service to his community serve as a worthy model for each student.

Our school colours, maroon and light-blue, are the colours used by the Honourable Eric Hamber's race horses. Our school motto in Latin, "Respice, Aspice, Prospice" (pronounced res-pee-kay, as-pee-kay, pros-pee-kay) means "look to the past, look to the present, look to the future".
