Admission Requirements

Entry Requirement

Australian Bachelor degree (3 years) (AQF Level 7) or overseas equivalent in a cognate discipline with at least 55% average in their undergraduate degree OR a Graduate Certificate of IT AQF level 8.

English Requirements

  • IELTS * (ACADEMIC only; GENERAL not accepted)  Minimum overall of score 6.5 with no band less than 6.0

  • TOEFL * (Internet Based Test)  Minimum overall score of 80 with no band less than: Listening 19, Speaking 19, Reading 18, Writing  23

  • PTE *:Minimum overall score of 58 with no band less than 50

  • CAE *: Minimum overall score of 176 with no band less than 169

  • HKCEE:  Minimum B in Syllabus B

  • HKALE: Minimum C use of English in AS-Level

  • GCE Ordinary Level: B grade or better in GCE O-Level English

  • GCE Advanced Level: C grade or better in GCE A-Level English

  • OTHER: Australian qualifications: Successful completion of recognised bachelor’s degree or higher(AQF Level 7 or Higher)

Course Information

The Course Overview –  can be used to view the course structure and sequence in which subjects should be studied. All subjects named in the Course Overviews are core subjects and must be studied to satisfy the requirements of the particular award.

The first two trimesters of the Master of Information Technology provide the underpinning knowledge and skills needed to successfully attempt the higher level subjects in the remaining trimesters.

The subjects in shaded boxes must be studied in the order they are presented as they provide pre-requisite knowledge for other subjects. The remaining subjects (core and elective) have a recommended trimester, but may be studied in other available trimester slots to suit individual student preferences, provided pre-requisites have been completed.

Students may choose any elective subjects from the list following the Course Overview, provided the subject is offered in the trimester they wish to study it and they have met the relevant pre-requisites.

Graduate Diploma of Information Technology

The Graduate Diploma of Information Technology is designed for students from an IT background who have successfully completed an undergraduate degree in an IT area (information technology, information systems, software engineering, computer science) or students who have completed a Graduate Certificate of IT. The course includes core subjects in programming, database, project management and emerging technologies. The course also provides electives which allow students to tailor their learning needs to suit their career goals. This course prepares the student for the growing demand from business for graduates to be able to work with emerging technologies.

Graduates of the Graduate Diploma of Information Technology are eligible to apply for admission into further postgraduate qualifications in Australia and overseas. Graduates may apply for admission to KOI’s Master of Information Technology with credit given for relevant studies completed within the Graduate Diploma of Information Technology.
