Tourism is one of the world’s biggest industries and this course provides excellent professional training from an international perspective, giving you practical and transferable skills.
Our International Tourism Management degree covers the environmental, sociocultural and economic impacts of tourism in both developed and developing destinations, alongside contemporary issues in the highly globalised tourism industry.
Your learning will be enhanced by field trips, which have included airside at Gatwick Airport and theme parks in the UK and overseas. There are visiting industry guest speakers and opportunities to work on live consultancy projects with local attractions. The optional placement year allows you to build sector experience and management skills to gain a competitive edge in the graduate jobs market.
You will benefit from our links to professional organisations: we are a member of the Association of Tourism in Higher Education (ATHE) and an affiliate member of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

Placement year
We encourage you to take a placement year between years 2 and 3 because it is an excellent opportunity to gain contacts, professional experience and an advantage in the job market.
Most placements are paid, with many students managing to save money for their final year of study. Students who take a placement are usually among the first to find jobs after graduating.
During your placement year you will design and complete a placement project based on a real business issue, problem or opportunity that you identify and work on. This will involve fieldwork and research, concluding with recommendations of practical, considered solutions to the original problem or suggestions on how to exploit the opportunity.
This project will form part of your final year course work and can count towards 20 credits of your final year assessment.
