Culinary excellence scholarships for South America

Brisbane introductory culinary arts scholarships

These scholarships are available to the value of $5,000 and $15,000 for those enrolling in July 2018 intake and apply to the following programmes:

• $5,000 scholarship for Diplôme de Cuisine (SIT30816 Certificate III in Commercial Cookery)
• $5,000 scholarship for Diplôme de Pâtisserie (SIT40516 Certificate III in Pâtisserie)
• $10,000 scholarship for SIT60316 Advanced Diploma Hospitality Management

Applicants will need to meet entry criteria and write a 400-word essay explaining why they want to study with Le Cordon Bleu, and their career aspirations in the hospitality industry.

Scholarship Rebate
These scholarships are available up to the value of RM15,000 rebate on the final invoice for those who enrolling in January or April intake and apply to the following programmes:

• Diplôme de Cuisine + Diploma in Culinary Management
• Diplôme de Pâtisserie + Diploma in Culinary Management

Endeavor scholarships – Australian Government 

International students are invited to apply for the Endeavour Scholarships offered by the Australian Government. The Endeavour scholarships provide financial support for international students from eligible countries to undertake vocational, undergraduate and postgraduate study in any field of within Australia. To apply, you must be from a participating country and/or region.

Work Integrated Learning is an integral part of Le Cordon Bleu study programmes. It provides an opportunity for you to apply the knowledge and skills you have gained in classroom contexts to the workplace, and to reflect upon your personal strengths and future career aspirations. Work Integrated Learning opportunities also enable you to start building your industry reputation and professional networks.

Work Integrated Learning is incorporated into all Le Cordon Bleu Australia study programmes:

• Culinary Arts programmes (six months)
• Bachelor Degree programmes (two blocks of six months)
• Master of International Hospitality Management programme (six months)

Cuisine and Masters students complete one WIL unit as part their course, whilst Bachelor students complete 2 WIL units. During the WIL unit students gain 600 hours of industry experience.Students can undertake Work Integrated Learning in varied hospitality businesses, from large or small hotels and restaurants, to catering companies and convention centres.

Our students are placed in such roles as food and beverage attendants, guest services agents (front office), rooms division attendants, and catering/banqueting attendants. The following organisations have taken student placements: One&Only Hayman Island; Hamilton Island; Hilton; The Hyatt; Starwood Hotels; Four Seasons; Grant Hyatt; Shangri-La; The Langham; Ayers Rock Resort; and the Mandarin Oriental.

Under current Australian visa regulations, students residing temporarily under a student visa are permitted to work up to 40 hours per fortnight.

Part-time jobs for students:

• Farm work: A$ 12-15/hour
• Waiter/waitress/kitchen staff: A$ 8-10/hour
• Sales: A$ 10/hour
• Cashier: A$ 8-9/hour
• Nail: A$ 15/hour + tips (for females)

Homestay accommodation

Homestay South Australia is an Adelaide based company committed to offering the highest quality homestay placement service to international students choosing Adelaide as their place of study. Homestay South Australia maintains a professional approach when placing students in carefully chosen homestay families. The company aims to meet the needs of international students by offering a total service package including airport reception, transfer to your accommodation and emergency phone contacts. Accommodation rates vary from A$200-270/week.

Private rental properties

While your landlord is responsible for insuring buildings and contents provided as part of the rental agreement, you are responsible for insuring your personal effects e.g. computers, TVs, cameras, phones, etc. This type of insurance cover is called Renters’ Insurance and typically covers theft, vandalism, fire and public liability. It can cost as little as $10 - $15 per week. Rental rates are about A$200-220/week.

Hostels and Boarding Houses

The Backpack Oz and Guest House is a small family owned property which provides dormitory style accommodation (up to 12 people) and private double and twin rooms all with their own reverse cycle air conditioner, colour TV and wash basin. The communal kitchen and bathroom facilities are modern, spacious and cleaned daily.

Room prices vary from $24 - $104 per night depending upon the style of accommodation and month of intended stay.
