Course 1 requirements
Master of Translation and Interpreting Studies
AQF level 7 bachelor's qualification in a related field or recognised equivalent; or AQF level 7 bachelor's qualification or recognised equivalent with one of:
Performance in their non-related bachelor's degree of an MQ equivalent WAM of +65, or
A recognised professional qualification in translation or interpreting, or
One year (full-time equivalent) approved work experience
Proficiency in one of the available languages, and
For students whose first language is English, completion of an admission assessment
Course 2 requirements
Master of Applied Linguistics and TESOL
Hold a related merit-based Honours (AQF 8), Graduate Diploma (AQF 8), Graduate Certificate (AQF 8) in TESOL
or
AQF level 7 bachelor’s qualification in a related field AND two years full-time (or part-time equivalent) relevant approved work experience in TESOL with a recognised educational institution. Meeting the work experience requirement does not guarantee admission at the 1.0 year entry point, and the selection committee will need to consider the detailed nature of the applicant's work experience in order to make a determination.
Note: successful admission into the double degree means that you must satisfy the requirements for both of the single degrees. Admissions requirements are true at the time of publishing.
Academic IELTS of 6.5 overall with minimum 6.0 in each band, or equivalent.
With its dual focus, the Master of Applied Linguistics and TESOL will provide you with an understanding of the complex relationship between language use and context, as well as a strong theoretical and practical foundation in the field of teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL).
The Master of Translation and Interpreting Studies (Advanced) will prepare you with the knowledge and skills you need for a career in this dynamic field. It’s set apart from the Master of Translation and Interpreting Studies in that it allows you to achieve greater depth in either translation or interpreting, or in both disciplines. You’ll have the opportunity to take electives that further develop your skills in areas such as subtitling; as well as translation and interpreting in medical, legal and business settings.
