Course Information

The MBA/MPA dual degree program is designed for those whose interests or career objectives are focused on both the public and private sectors of the economy.

Designed for both new and current working professionals, the MBA/MPA dual degree program prepares students for managerial roles in the public and private sector. The demands on the public sector in the current economy require public administrators to be knowledgeable not only on public policy issues and regulations, but also possess the necessary skills to efficiently manage personnel, be fiscally responsible, and communicate effectively. Similarly, private sector professionals must understand the implications of operating a business within the domestic and international communities while being cognizant of local, federal, and international regulations.

This dual degree program requires at least 60 credit hours of coursework, with a minimum of 21 credits in business and 21 credits in public administration. Students who have not completed significant undergraduate coursework in business may be required to complete up to 15 additional credits in this program. Courses in the MBA program cover key foundational business principles in finance, accounting, marketing, management, economics, and statistics. Public administration courses cover a variety of topics in city management, personnel and labor relations, and community-clinical services, among others. Toward the end of the program, all dual degree students must choose to do either thesis or capstone research project courses.
