A minimum TOEFL score of 550 on the paper version of the test, 213 on the computer-based version or a 79-80 on the internet-based version. IELTS minimum score: 6.5.
Freshman applicants may waive the TOEFL, IELTS exam if their secondary institution provides written verification that the means of instruction is in English, they are enrolled in an IB curriculum, attend an American School or enrolled in a curriculum that leads to Cambridge International Examinations: IGCSE/O-Level and GCE/A level exam.
The Clinical Laboratory Sciences Master's Degree Program at UMass Lowell is intended for experienced professionals or new graduates with a background in clinical sciences/medical laboratory science, biology, chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology or related areas who want to develop and expand their expertise in the clinical sciences.
This program provides individuals with the level of graduate education to develop those skills required to upgrade the quality of their job performance and enhance their opportunities for advancement in their professions. Students will develop skills and knowledge required for the advanced degree, including critical and independent thinking, research design, normal and pathophysiology, analytical method evaluation and scientific literature assessment. Students will also develop competencies in administration and management.
The program serves local and regional scientists and is the only public program of its kind in New England (New England residents may qualify for reduced tuition). Faculty are experienced in the field and several are certified in specialized areas of the clinical sciences.
Completion of this graduate program does not qualify students to sit for the national certification examination in Medical Laboratory Sciences/Medical Technology offered by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Certification.

Alumni hold diverse positions including clinical laboratory supervisors, health care administrators, biomedical and biotechnical research scientists, clinical trial coordinators, pharmaceutical and forensic scientists as well as positions in the growing biomedical device industry. Some graduates also hold administrative positions in these fields.
Graduates of the program are very competitive and demonstrate continuous employment in a wide variety of technologically based professions in clinical, medical, scientific and industrial areas. Program graduates gain greater mobility and expand personal career opportunities. Many choose to assume leadership roles in their fields. The degree also creates a foundation for more advanced doctoral training.
