Entry requirements

  • a completed online general application
  • official transcripts from ALL colleges and universities attended that contributed in earning the Bachelor’s degree:
    • Official transcripts and certificates (with notarized translations into English where appropriate) from all colleges and universities attended.
  • a statement of purpose
  • three letters of recommendation.

English requirements

  • TOEFL of 79 (La Verne Code 4381) exam results sent directly from the testing agency to the University of La Verne;
  • IELTS of 6.5, sent directly from the testing agency to the University of La Verne;
  • Duolingo English Test of 100; or
  • Completion of level 112 at ELS Language Centers in the Intensive program

Course Information

The Master of Science in Educational Counseling  program prepares compassionate individuals to be academically well prepared, ethical, competent, and responsive counselors who can be leaders and advocates. Educational counselors help create environments in schools and the larger community that support cultural responsiveness, academic achievement, and promote social justice. Educational counselors embrace a holistic approach to maximize the learning environment so that all students can experience success in the academic, college/career readiness, and social/emotional domains.

To provide maximum convenience and flexibility, the MS in Educational Counseling program is available at several campus locations throughout California, including La Verne, Bakersfield, Burbank, College of the Canyons, Irvine, and Oxnard. Courses are held in the late afternoons, evenings, and some weekends to meet the schedules of working students, and students can complete their degree on either a full- or part-time schedule. The degree consists of 51-65 credits and can be completed in 2.5 years of full-time study or 3.5 years of part-time study.

Depending on a student’s chosen concentration or addition of the Pupil Personnel Services Credential, graduates of the master’s degree in Educational Counseling are prepared for a variety of roles in schools and community organizations.
