Medical education at the University of Manitoba is founded on the CanMeds - Family Medicine competency framework, and the three pillars of Discovery, Scholarship, and Community. Two years of foundational science, population and public health principles and clinical sciences are followed by two years of progressive responsibility for patient care and management in core rotations and elective opportunities. The four year MD Program serves as a foundation for formal postgraduate education that varies in duration from two to six years. Career opportunities upon completion of undergraduate and postgraduate education include clinical practice as a Family Physician with the College of Family Physicians of Canada, or one of the many areas of medical specialist practice with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
