Welcome to the University of Birmingham! We look forward to welcoming you and are here to give you the information and tools for you to make the most of this opportunity, get involved with our University community, and get to know your new home.
For more than a century, the University of Birmingham has been pursuing and sharing knowledge through outstanding teaching and world-leading research.
We are the original ‘redbrick’ University, part of the prestigious Russell Group; our thriving student population enjoys a wide range of courses, and exceptional campus and research facilities.
The 10 Nobel Laureates we count among our staff and alumni have contributed to some of science’s greatest discoveries, including in recent times the Higgs Boson and Gravitational Waves. Our research provides innovative solutions to the challenges we face in our city, our region and across the globe.
We encourage and empower people to turn ideas into reality and make important things happen.
Birmingham is a world-leading University for life sciences in health research and education. A global top 100 university tackling some of the biggest issues the world faces, we are making a difference to people's lives on a daily basis.
We are proud to have 11 Nobel Prize winners whose work has made an impact worldwide. Five of those have made major discoveries in life sciences, from revealing the structure of DNA to developing new treatments for heart disease and cancer.
We are continually discovering, translating and applying science, and forging major advances in health, wellbeing, disease prevention and management. Our ability to deliver bench to bedside to bench research allows us to address major global health problems including aging, obesity, mental health, communicable diseases and antibiotic resistance, alongside non-communicable diseases such as cancer, chronic and rare diseases, as well as trauma.
