The Communication program at the University of New Haven are designed to give you the specialized skills you need to creatively and successfully adapt to the continuing evolution of both interpersonal and mass communication.

  • Our Bachelor of Arts in Communication will provide you with a comprehensive understanding of how to frame and deliver the message through interpersonal communication, organizational communication, public relations, advertising, mass communication, journalism, radio, television, and film.
  • Our Bachelor of Science in Communication will prepare you for a behind-the-scenes career in writing/directing, crew work, producing, and editing by adding sought-after production skills to your studies.

The program features limitless opportunities that will prepare you to step into this dynamic and exciting field with confidence and professionalism. Among them are:

  • Training on professional equipment and software in the state-of-the-art Laurel Vlock Center for Convergent Media
  • Accessing on-campus field and studio production facilities, editing labs, a fully equipped television studio, and award-winning radio station WNHU, 24/7
  • Creating competitive and scholarly projects in film, journalism, theory and social media
  • Joining professional organizations and on-campus clubs to stay on top of trends and increase networking opportunities
  • Participating in real-world meetings and experiences by interning at nearby organizations, such as ESPN, The New York Times and Disney, as well as international opportunities at the Cannes Film Festival and our Prato, Italy campus
  • Combining your education with practical, paid work experience through the University’s Co-op Program

Students earning a B.A. degree in communication with a concentration in public relations and digital media will build specialized knowledge and skills related to public relations across a variety of platforms and contexts in addition to acquiring a solid grounding in digital media production.  Through coursework emphasizing writing, campaigns, and persuasion, as well as laboratory and field experiences in digital media design and production along with internship opportunities, students will learn to become competent and well-rounded public relations professionals.
