About

General description

At Federation University, the desire to transform lives and enhance communities informs everything we do. From research that improves people’s lives right around the world, to supporting our students to succeed at their studies and in life – we make a difference.

With campuses in Ballarat, Berwick, Brisbane, Gippsland and the Wimmera, we became Federation University in 2014 – a new entity bringing together almost 150 years of history from our predecessor institutions.

As a young university, we have the energy and optimism of youth combined with the knowledge and experience that comes from our history as one of the oldest universities in Australia, dating back to 1870.

We are a diverse community with over 24,000 domestic and international students and 110,000 alumni across Australia and the world. We are creating a Federation of independent thinkers, of like-minded individuals who are determined to make their mark.

Why Gippsland Campus (Churchill)

The Gippsland Campus is located in the township of Churchill in the foothills of the Strzelecki Ranges. It is within easy driving distance of Victoria's Mt Baw Baw ski resort, white water rivers and coastal parks, including Wilson's Promontory and Gippsland Lakes. Nearby is the Tarra Bulga National Park, a spectacular temperate rainforest that is home to giant mountain ash trees and lyrebirds. The traditional custodians for this area are the Gunai Kurnai peoples.

The 160-kilometre drive from Melbourne to the campus takes about two hours, heading east on the Princes Highway, or 90 minutes by fast train.

The Gippsland Campus is driven by a fundamental imperative - to improve outcomes and increase opportunities for individuals, their families and the communities they create. Through education, research and innovation, our work responds to global trends and local needs, helping ensure the prosperity, productivity and sustainability of Gippsland, now and in future.
