More than 2,534 publications resulting from our researchers’ work were published in 2018.

Victoria University of Wellington consistently ranks among the world’s 18,000 universities. In 2018, Victoria ranked 221 in the QS World University Rankings.

Victoria University of Wellington has five stars overall in the QS Stars rating of excellenceand five stars in each of the eight categories—arts and culture, discipline ranking and accreditations, employability, facilities, inclusiveness, internationalisation, research, and teaching.

Overall, Victoria University of Wellington is in the top 2 percent of the world’s 18,000 universities.

In 19 subject areas, we are among the top 1 percent of the world’s universities (2019 QS World University Rankings by Subject).

We have two subjects ranked in the top 50 in the world, including Library and Information Management, which sits within the Information Studies programme at Victoria Business School. The subject is ranked 24 in the world in the QS World University Rankings by Subject, up from 40 in 2018.

Victoria Business School is one of an elite group of commerce faculties worldwide that hold the Triple Crown of international accreditations of EQUIS, AACSB (Business) and AMBA. Victoria University of Wellington has over 22,000 students, including over 3,700 international students from more than 110 countries. In 2018, we awarded 4,868 qualifications at graduation ceremonies. The University has over 2,300 full-time equivalent staff and over 1,000 of those are involved in teaching and research. About half our academic staff were born outside New Zealand.

We have 10 faculties, eight of which conduct teaching and research—each faculty is divided into schools. Victoria University of Wellington is committed to a range of international initiatives and connections—many of these through our global programmes and partners.

Pipitea campus is located in the heart of Wellington’s legal, government and business district. The campus includes Government Buildings, Rutherford House and the Railway West Wing, and sits adjacent to Wellington’s railway station and bus terminus.

The campus is home to the School of Management and the Schools of Government, Law, Economics and Finance, Information Management, Marketing and International Business and Accounting and Commercial Law.

As the campus is based at Wellington’s commuter transport hub, there is easy access for train and bus users to our facilities. Regular bus services link staff and students to the Kelburn campus.

The Pipitea campus provides facilities for students in their second year and beyond, with approximately 6,000 students studying law, government and commerce subjects.

The Wellington School of Business and Government Student Administration Office and other student support services are located on the ground floor of Rutherford House.
