About

General description

Laurier traces its roots to the opening of the Evangelical Lutheran Seminary in Waterloo more than 100 years ago in 1911. We’ve gone through several changes since then, and in 1973 our name changed from Waterloo Lutheran University to Wilfrid Laurier University. In 1999, we opened our campus in Brantford. In 2018, the Ontario government announced final approval for Laurier to establish a campus in Milton in partnership with Conestoga College.

Laurier is a remarkable university with a long tradition of inspiring lives of leadership and purpose. You will see these words on our signs, read them in our publications and hear them on our campuses. These words are much more than merely a slogan or a marketing device. They are the foundation of our university identity, and they have been a central part of who we are as a university for more than 100 years. The essence of inspiring lives of leadership and purpose comes directly from our people: a strong and supportive sense of community, highly engaged students, and the enthusiastic commitment of our highly talented faculty and staff.

Why choose Brantford campus

The Brantford campus has transformed the downtown core of the City of Brantford into a thriving student community home to around 3,000 undergraduate and graduate students. With its buildings spread throughout the core of the city, the Brantford campus is literally interwoven into the downtown. But the strong connections between campus and community don’t end there. Students bring classroom learning to life through community partnerships and volunteer placements, enabling them to make a difference and support this growing city.
