Entry Requirements

For undergraduate, freshmen students:

  • The minimum Grade Point Average required is a 2.3/4.0 on secondary/high school work.

For undergraduate, transfer students:

  • The minimum Grade Point Average required is a 2.0/4.0 on post-secondary/university/college work

For undergraduate, post-degree students

  • The minimum Grade Point Average required is a 2.0/4.0 on post-secondary/university/college work

English Requirements

Incoming international undergraduate students must meet one of the criteria’s set forth in the below chart.

  • Completion of A-State's ESL Program: 80% or above

  • Completion of CEA accredited language program: Completion certificate for completing all levels

  • Completion of HOFT Institute ESL Program: Completion certificate of the program

  • TOEFL-Paper Based*: 500

  • TOEFL-Paper Based, Revised*: 46

  • TOEFL-Internet Based***: 61

  • IELTS*: 5.5

  • PTE (Pearson Test of English Academic): 43

  • iTEP Academic Plus*: 4

  • EIKEN: Grade Pre-1

  • SAT scores**: 550 (total on the Evidence-Based Reading/Writing score)

  • ACT scores**: 21 (total, and on reading and English sections)

  • High School Marks (India, Nepal, and Pakistan): 60% in English at X and XII in Certificate

  • High School Marks (Kenya): 75% in English in Grade 10 and Grade 12

  • IB (International Baccalaureate): 5, 6 or 7 on English: Literature or Language & Literature

  • High School Graduate from USA, UK, Canada (except Quebec), Australia and New Zealand: Must have completed two years there and graduated

  • Duolingo English Test: 90

Course Information

The Bachelor of Science in Education (BSE) degree in World Languages and Cultures with emphasis in French or Spanish prepares you specifically for a teaching profession in secondary school with an emphasis in French or Spanish. 

Upon meeting the degree and state licensure requirements you will be able to teach French or Spanish in public and private schools at the high school level.

In addition, the B.S.E. degree enables you to continue your studies in graduate school to prepare for a career in higher education.

Graduates of the BSE in World Languages and Cultures program have successfully found employment as French or Spanish teachers in public and private schools at the high school level.

Additionally, graduates of the BSE in World Languages and Cultures program have successfully continued their academic education at the post-graduate level in fields such as 

  • Spanish or Latin American Languages and Literatures

  • Francophone Languages and Literatures

  • Translation / Interpretation

  • Teacher Education and Administrative Leadership
