Admission Requirements

Entry requirement

We welcome applicants without traditional entry qualifications, as we base decisions on our own assessment of qualifications, knowledge and previous work experience. We may waive formal entry requirements based on judgement of academic potential.

English requirement

If English is not your first language or you have not previously studied in English, our usual requirement is the equivalent of an International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic Test) score of 6.5, with not less than 6.0 in each of the sub-tests.

If you don’t meet the minimum IELTS requirement, we offer pre-sessional English courses, foundation programmes and language support services to help you improve your English language skills and get your place at Birkbeck.

Course Information

Looking to develop a career in accounting? Or working closely with the accounting profession? Do you want to find out how accounting can improve managerial decision-making? This joint degree provides high-level education in accounting and its role in management in both the public and private sectors.

You will develop vital transferable skills and a broad understanding of accounting and management, gaining detailed knowledge of accounting practices, finance, strategic management, marketing, managerial economics and quantitative techniques. This programme is recognised by the CIMA and ACCA, the leading professional accounting bodies, and exemptions from their professional examinations are possible.

Birkbeck has a diverse student community, which creates a stimulating and supportive learning environment. You will interact with peers possessing a broad range of experience, many of whom will have come directly from careers as administrators, clerical workers or managers, to develop more detailed and nuanced insights into accounting and management.

The course is taught entirely by evening study, enabling you to combine your academic studies with daytime commitments and gain invaluable practical experience during the day.

This course is also available for full-time evening study over three years.
