Course Information

LIU Brooklyn offers the Family Nurse Practitioner Advanced Certificate (FNP). The 38-credit program is designed to be completed in six semesters (fall, spring, and summer) of part-time study. Registered Nurses who have a Masters in Nursing (not an FNP) are eligible to apply for this program. Graduates of the Advance Certificate FNP program are eligible for a New York State Certificate as a family nurse practitioner and will be eligible for national board certification through the national certifying agencies for advanced practice nursing (American Nurses Credentialing Center, American Academy of Nurse Practitioners).

Family Nurse Practitioner Advanced Certificate program offers nurses who already have earned a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in nursing, the opportunity to increase their expertise in the area of care for adults in a variety of settings including clinics, hospitals and ambulatory care centers.

Under the New York State, Modernization Act, after successfully completing the 3600 clinical hours, a nurse practitioner can independently diagnose and treat patients without a written practice collaboration with a physician
