Admission Requirements

Entry Requirements

The University's Bachelor Honours Degree (AQF Level 8) Policy will apply.

Applicants for this Honours program must have successfully completed the Bachelor of Arts (or equivalent) with a GPA of 5.0 (using a 7.0 point scale) over second and third year level courses.

The suitability of the proposed dissertation topic and availability of supervisors will also be considered.

English Requirements

English language requirements apply to International applicants and other applicants whose previous study was undertaken in a language other than English. The minimum English language requirements for such applicants for entry to this program are as follows:

  • A minimum overall band score of 6.5 on IELTS (Academic) with no sub-score of less than 6.0
  • OR a minimum score of 575 on TOEFL
  • OR an internet-based (iBT) TOEFL score of 79 (no sub-score less than 19)
  • OR no score less than 3+ in each skill of the ISLPR (conducted by ISLPR Language Services only)
  • OR a minimum overall score of 176 (no score less than 169) on C1 Advanced (formerly Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English) or C2 Proficiency (formerly Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English)
  • OR an overall score of 58 in the Pearson Test of English (Academic) with no score less than 50.

English test results must be no more than two years old.

Course Information

Griffith University Bachelor of Arts graduates with an appropriate GPA may undertake an additional year of study in the Honours program, which can qualify them for highly skilled professional work and/or further postgraduate studies.

The Honours program is designed as an 'end-on' fourth year from a Bachelor of Arts. It provides students with the opportunity to build on the skills and knowledge gained in their undergraduate degree.

As an Honours student, you will plan and execute a research dissertation or a creative/professional product with minor dissertation/exegesis. You will be supervised by an experienced academic who will guide your learning. You will be instructed in key research principles and methodologies in the arts.

The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree consists of 80 credit points of assessed student work. This includes 30 credit points of coursework and 50 credit points of supervised research. Your research project will be based on your undergraduate studies and will be selected in consultation with the Program Director.

As an International student, you will receive dedicated support from the time of your arrival in Australia through to your departure after graduation.

Upon admission, the Program Director (in consultation with the student), will determine the discipline of study based on the student's prior undergraduate studies.
