Admission Requirements

English requirements:

If English is not your first language or you've received your education in a language other than English, students must produce evidence of their English Language Proficiency:

  • ELTS overall band of 6.5 with no band less than 6.0
  • TOEFL iBT 88
  • CAEL 70, no sub-test band score less than 60
  • PTE Academic 58
  • Conestoga English Language Test (CELT) Band 6

Other requirements:

  • A minimum of six (6) Grade 12 courses with a minimum cumulative average of 65%, including two (2) required U level courses and four (4) additional U or M level courses. (Higher averages are often required for admission.)
  • The following Grade 12 U courses are required:
    • English minimum 60%
    • One (1) Grade 12 Mathematics course from the following: Calculus and Vectors OR Advanced Functions OR Mathematics of Data Management minimum 60%
    • Four (4) other Grade 12 U or M courses
  • The minimum cumulative average required for consideration is 65%. Higher averages are often required for admission due to competition for available spaces in the program.
  • Students in this program are required to bring a mobile device that meets minimum specified requirements.
  • Students in this program are required to participate in Conestoga's eText initiative.
  • Students are required to successfully complete two language electives (in one language) in order to graduate.
  • Applicants must have basic computer literacy.
  • The academic requirements to be eligible for a co-op work term in a degree program are as follows:
    • Minimum 65% weighted sessional average in the eligibility term two academic semesters prior to any co-op work term
    • Maximum two failures or withdrawals during the academic semester that occurs in the eligibility term two academic semesters prior to any co-op work term
    • Must have successfully completed all but two core courses, according to the program design, by the eligibility term prior to any given work term (regardless of the level the student was placed in advanced standing)
    • Students (even those on special timetables) will not be permitted to complete a co-op work term until conditions above are met and all but two core course deficiencies, according to the program design, are cleared
    • Co-op work terms may need to be re-sequenced to allow academic deficiencies to be cleared or in the event a student changes cohorts (i.e. graduation is delayed by one year or more). Students may not repeat a passed work term
    • Should a student's academic performance decline considerably during the term just prior to any work term, the college reserves the right to withdraw the student from the upcoming work term
    • In the case of back to back work terms eligibility to participate in consecutive work terms will be granted upon approval to participate in the initial work term
    • Where two or more work terms occur back to back, should a student fail to achieve academic eligibility for the first work term, their eligibility for the second work term will be based on the term that occurs two terms prior to the second work term
    • Students in degree programs may only fail/defer each work term in their program design once

Course Information

About the Program

Whether your dream is to work in global cities like London, Beijing or New York, or to work for a local company that deals in worldwide trade, the dynamic International Business Management degree at Conestoga will put you on the right track. This four-year, co-op Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) program is designed to prepare students to manage international business endeavours and work in global companies. The goal is to provide graduates with the ability to bring people, processes, and technology together to achieve improved performance in domestic or international enterprises. At the end of Year 2, students have the option of selecting a major in Human Resource Management (HRM), Supply Chain Management (SCM), Marketing Management (MM), NEW - Sustainability Management (SM) or continuing in the general stream. Program highlights include:

  • three paid co-op terms

  • a major consulting project

  • an optional Bachelor's thesis

  • use of SAP© Business Suite Applications

  • an emphasis on effective decision-making through data analytics and the Ivey Case methodology

  • a strong international focus including a second language, and international exchange and dual-degree opportunities

Program Outcomes

  • Analyze business situations, using root cause analysis, data analytics, systems thinking, evidence and context to identify opportunities for innovation and improvement in adding value to organizations in domestic and international settings.

  • Evaluate and synthesize research findings and/or results to support evidence-based decision making in domestic and international settings.

  • Apply the skills and knowledge related to fundamental areas of business (e.g., operations, finance, marketing, human resources, sustainability, etc.) To develop effective solutions to business problems.

  • Develop effective actionable plans and strategies to implement decisions within the organizational context.

  • Recommend effective and ethical solutions to business problems using critical and creative thinking within domestic and international business contexts.

  • Prepare and present persuasive arguments, in oral and written formats, to convince the recipient of the validity of their position on specified business issues.

  • Collaborate with others to analyze business problems, generate alternatives, develop recommendations, and create action plans in domestic and international contexts.

  • Manage organizational data in legally, ethically, and culturally appropriate ways through the skilled usage of information technology programs and systems.

  • Assess their professional capacity, including leadership ability, ethics, strengths and limitations to continue their personal and professional growth and development.

  • Evaluate business decisions and actions through a focus on the development and maintenance of stakeholder relationships to sustain the competitive advantage of the organization.

  • Recognize the value of other disciplines in the world of business and apply interdisciplinary ideas to add value to an organization.

Co-op Information

  • Co-op programs add value to your education. Earn while you apply what you learn in a real workplace environment.

  • The College cannot guarantee co-op employment. All co-op students are required to conduct an independent co-op job search in addition to the supports and services provided by the Department of Co-op Education.

  • Students are responsible for their own transportation and associated costs in order to complete work term requirements. Work locations may not always be readily accessible by public transportation.

  • Students who do not secure the first work term by the start of the work term semester will be offered the option to enrol in the 14 credit Career Management in Canada co-op alternative. This co-op alternative involves one 3 hour on campus session per week and 12 hours per week of online and out-of-class activity.

  • If Career Management in Canada is selected, the student must attend sessions from the first session of the term and cannot complete a co-op term for their first work term.

  • Career Management in Canada may be delivered at the Doon, Waterloo, or Cambridge campus.

  • Career Management in Canada is only an alternative for the first co-op work term of the program, students will still complete at least one mandatory co-op work term if they choose Career Management in Canada.
