Admission Requirements

Entry Requirement

  • be at least 18 years old when you start study

  • International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma - successful completion with minimum score of 24 (minimum score of 4 in each of six subjects)

  • Global Assessment Certificate (GAC) - successful completion with a minimum GPA of 2.3

  • As part of your application, you are required to complete an online questionnaire to demonstrate your motivation for, and understanding of, the program and profession. In the questionnaire, you will be asked to rank a series of statements in order of what you think is most to least important. You will also need to write a 600-1000 word personal statement on why you think you would make a great teacher, and why influencing the future appeals to you. After you have submitted an application for this program, you will be contacted with further information about the written statement and how to complete your application.

English Requirement

Qualifications listed below, that are the equivalent to Australian Year 12, must be completed within the last five years.

Tests listed below must have been completed within the last two years.​

IELTS (Academic)    

  • Overall score of 7.5 with minimum 8.0 in speaking and listening and 7.0 in reading and writing

Language of Instruction English (LOI)

  • LoI English will be considered in limited circumstances on a case-by-case basis. Applicants who have successfully completed at least four years of higher education study where the language of instruction is English, completed within the last five years in any of the countries listed, may be considered: Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, United States of America, Canada, Republic of Ireland. LoI English will not be considered for studies undertaken in countries that don’t appear in this list.

Course Information

Learn how to combine your knowledge of communication and the arts with teaching skills in this double degree, where you can specialise in two teaching areas*Δ such as English, geography, history, drama, Japanese#, music, screen media, psychology#, biology, chemistry or mathematics.

You will study how to plan lessons, assess students, and manage a classroom of students in Years 7-12. You will have the opportunity to travel to rural and remote areas for a teaching placement and learn to teach a diverse range of students in varied educational settings.

In this program you will:

  • Learn how to plan lessons, assess students, and manage a classroom

  • Link theory and practice through 80 days of supervised professional experience in Queensland schools

  • Engage with community projects through 30 hours wider field experience with children, families and communities

  • Be provided the opportunity to experience different school settings and learners by taking a trip to rural and remote areas

Graduates are eligible to become members of the Queensland College of Teachers.
