Admission Requirements

Entry Requirements

The University's Bachelor Honours Degree (AQF Level 8) Policy will apply.

To be eligible for admission to this Honours program, consideration will be given to the following criteria:

  • have achieved a grade point average of at least 5.0 over the best 9 studio courses in their second and third years of their undergraduate degree
  • have achieved a grade point average of at least 5.0 over the best 30 credit points in art theory in their undergraduate degree (only 10 credit points of which can be at first year level), and
  • have negotiated one supervisor who is available and willing to facilitate the student's requirements
  • prospective students must confirm prior to application that their chosen project can be conducted within the appropriate concentration area, that is, check the availability of resources, supervision etc.
  • submit a proposal outlining the nature of the Research Project they wish to undertake
  • applicants may be required to attend a selection interview and present a current folio of their most outstanding work.

English Requirements 

English language requirements apply to International applicants and other applicants whose previous study was undertaken in a language other than English. The minimum English language requirements for such applicants for entry to this program are as follows:

  • A minimum overall band score of 6.5 on IELTS (Academic) with no sub-score of less than 6.0
  • OR a minimum score of 575 on TOEFL
  • OR an internet-based (iBT) TOEFL score of 79 (no sub-score less than 19)
  • OR no score less than 3+ in each skill of the ISLPR (conducted by ISLPR Language Services only)
  • OR a minimum overall score of 176 (no score less than 169) on C1 Advanced (formerly Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English) or C2 Proficiency (formerly Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English)
  • OR an overall score of 58 in the Pearson Test of English (Academic) with no score less than 50.

English test results must be no more than two years old

 

Course Information

This Honours program will provide a fourth year of study for students who have completed Bachelor of Film and Screen Media Production (1284). It will provide advanced level study of film and screen media and begin formal training in research through the completion of an independent research and internship project together with theoretical studies.

The program comprises a significant independent studio research and internship project to be completed under formal supervision. This project is complemented by associated methodological theoretical courses and an appropriate elective course to be chosen with the supervisor's approval from the suite of undergraduate courses.
