Admission Requirements

Entry requirements

Mature-aged Entry: Applicants who are aged 21 years or above may be admitted to an academic program at NIC without meeting formal academic qualifications. Evidence of relevant work experience and other acceptable qualifications will need to be submitted at the time of applying.

Recognition for Prior Learning: Students who have previously enrolled in post-secondary or tertiary studies may be recognised for their prior learning, and may wish to apply for exemptions. Applicants will be required to supply certified copies of all academic transcripts as well as detailed course syllabus information (outlining the content of that particular subject) for an assessment. Official transcripts and syllabus information must be supplied in English.

  • University of Newcastle’s ELICOS programs: 60% or more in all 4 skill areas of the EAP exam

Course Information

The Diploma of Information Technology leads to year 2 of the Bachelor of Information Technology, ranked in the top 200 in the world by the 2015 QS World Subject Rankings. This degree gives all graduates core skills in building software that uses complex databases and sophisticated web interfaces suitable for the corporate office or the mobile phone. Students can choose from a number of major areas of study ranging from the building of commercial applications to the creation of digital media for entertainment or game playing

Pathway Courses

Students with an IELTS score of 5.5 (and the appropriate academic requirements) will be able to begin Diploma studies on a Provisional Entry Program (PEP). Students will enrol in a Communication and Literacy course, which focuses on academic literacy and study skills. This module is completed concurrently with two academic Diploma courses. The remaining six courses for the Diploma will then be completed over the following two trimesters.
