Higher English scores are required for admission to higher degrees in some faculties at UWA:
A higher degree by research preliminary is a supervised course of advanced study and/or research administered by a faculty to a value determined by the faculty or the Board of the Graduate Research School on the recommendation of the relevant head of school. A faculty or the Board of the Graduate Research School may, on the recommendation of the relevant head of school, require an applicant to complete a preliminary course before deciding whether or not to accept the applicant into a higher degree by research.
