Admission Requirements

Entry Requirements

Undergraduate degree: 2:1 (or international equivalent) in an arts, humanities or social science subject.For information on entry requirements from your country, choose it below.

English Requirements

  • IELTS 7.0 (no less than 6.5 in any element) or
  • PTE 76 (minimum 65) or
  • TOEFL 100 (minimum 20 in Speaking and 19 in all other elements)

Course Information

Develop your knowledge of the film and televisions sectors through your own unique research. You'll receive expert supervision and guidance from our experienced staff. You will also be able to take advantage of a series of taught modules, chosen according to your research needs.

We work across a broad range of specialisations to foster your critical thinking and develop your analytical skills.

You'll be working in an environment with a strong interdisciplinary and international perspective.

Our teaching and research is at the forefront of developments in film and television studies. The department hosts the Institute for Screen Industries Research, an ideas incubator for the film and television industries.

Modules

Research dissertation

  • You'll agree a topic with your supervisor and write a dissertation of up to 25,000 words. It is marked by both an internal and an external examiner with the possibility of a viva to confirm the award.

Taught modules
You will take 60 credits from the following list:

  • Marketing and Promotion
  • Development and Production
  • Audiences and Consumption
  • MRes Research Skills 1
  • MRes Research Skills 2

Core Structure

  • You will usually take the two modules in the first semester and one in the second. The dissertation is then finished over the summer.
