Successful completion of an Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent).
Applicants intending to study this course in NSW (Sydney Campus) must also:
1. possess at least a Band 4 result in a prior HSC mathematics course, or
2. have undertaken at least 0.125 EFTSL (1 unit) of mathematics/numeracy in the prior bachelor degree or equivalent qualification, or
3. pass a bridging unit (in addition to the course units) that is benchmarked to a NSW Education Standards Authority HSC Band (see below)
Those students who do not meet this requirement can undertake a bridging course, Unilearn UNL31 Introductory Mathematics. Applicants who complete this course must submit a copy of their Unilearn Statement of Achievement and transcript with their application. Specialisation - compulsory: In a relevant discipline area for primary teaching as per the National Program Standards, the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) and the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA).
Applicants will require at least one year of full-time equivalent study (in Australia, usually 8 units), at any year level, relevant to one or more areas of the primary school curriculum. These areas include:
All applicants will complete a situation judgement test to support selection into teaching programs. This is a requirement for initial teacher training courses in Victoria and aims to assess an applicants personal and professional attributes. You can either register to sit the online CASPer Test or the La Trobe University School of Education Aptitude for Teaching Assessment (AFTA). You can register for the AFTA online test for free.
Note: Meeting minimum prerequisites does not guarantee an offer of a place. Entry into all La Trobe courses is based on competitive selection and there may be limited places available.
7.0 IELTS (Academic) with no individual band less than 7.0 and a score of no less than 7.5 in Speaking and Listening.

The Master of Teaching (Primary) course prioritises explicit teaching, the fostering of effective reading skills, and quality instructional and assessment design to provide a comprehensive educator preparation course.

To qualify for the award of Master of Teaching (Primary), students must complete a total of 240 credit points across 2 years.
