Admission Requirements

Entry Requirements

2:1 or equivalent in Economics. You may also be offered a place if you have a strong degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computing, Engineering or the sciences and are very keen to study Economics.

English Requirements

If English isn't your first language you may need to provide evidence of your English language ability. We accept the following qualifications:

  • IELTS, 6.5, minimum 6.0 in each component

  • C1 Advanced and C2 Proficiency, 176, minimum 169 in each component

  • Duolingo, 110, minimum 100 in all other components

  • LanguageCert, B2 Communicator High Pass with 33/50 in each component

  • PTE Academic, 61, minimum 55 in each component

  • TOEFL, 87, minimum 21 in each component

  • Trinity ISE III, Merit in all requirements

Course Information

Develop your skills in economic analysis and quantitative techniques.

This course emphasises problem-solving and practice in economic theory, applied economics and econometrics. You'll have opportunities to study areas of application at the frontiers of economics such as experimental economics, regulatory policy, industrial organisation, intertemporal and international macroeconomics, financial markets, and labour economics.

Students who have a Bachelors degree in Economics with a very high average mark and a research proposal of outstanding quality can apply for the 1+3 PhD. This gives you the chance to first study for a Masters then a PhD in Economics.

For the Masters, you will take core modules which may include:

  1. Advanced Microeconomics 

  2. Advanced Macroeconomics 2: International Finance and Trade 

  3. Advanced Macroeconomics 

  4. Project 

  5. Either Econometrics 1 & 2 or Econometric Methods for Research or Econometrics 1 and Applied Microeconometrics
